THE KORVACK CONSPIRACY

(A SHORT SEQUENCE OF ELECTRONIC PIPS.)

ANNOUNCER :

(A RAPID, URGENT SERIES OF PIPS.

OVER, WE HEAR FEMALE, METALLIC)

VOICE : File is Classified. Do you have clearance?

(MORE PIPS)

VOICE : You have access.

VOICE : The Korvack Conspiracy began in New York on the night of July 23rd

(MORE PIPS)

TELEPHONE INTERCEPT START TONE

(AMERICAN TELEPHONE RINGING OUT)


LUCKY : Yeh ?

KORVACK : Me again. How much longer?

LUCKY : Mr Korvack -

KORVACK : When do I get to see him ?

LUCKY : When you' re told .

KORVACK : Look, can't you - ?


LUCKY : You see him when you're told.

(LUCKY HANGS UP. DISENGAGED TONE)

(TELEPHONE INTERCEPT END TONE)

VOICE : Call intercepted.

TELEPHONE INTERCEPT START TONE.

(AMERICAN TELEPHONE RINGING OUT.)

LUCKY : Yeh ?

KORVACK : Korvack.

LUCKY : Listen, Mr Korvack -

KORVACK : No - you listen, I'm tired of -

(DISENGAGED TONE)

(TELEPHONE INTERCEPT END TONE)

VOICE : Call intercepted.

TELEPHONE INTERCEPT START TONE

(AMERICAN TELEPHONE RINGS OUT)

KORVACK : Hello ?

LUCKY : That you Korvack ?

KORVACK : Speaking.


LUCKY : He'll see you tonight. You'll be picked up at eight.

KORVACK : Tonight?

(TELEPHONE INTERCEPT END TONE)

VOICE : Call intercepted.

SURVEILLANCE START TONE


(NEW YORK APARTMENT - HIGH ABOVE NIGHT TRAFFIC

LUCKY ENTERS)

LUCKY: ... Mr Gordinni ? Mr Gordinni ...

GORDINNI : ... in the bathroom.

LUCKY : He's here Mr Gordinni.

(W.C. FLUSHES)

GORDINNI : What ?

LUCKY : Korvack.

(GORDINNI ENTERS FROM BATHROOM)

GORDINNI : So how do you figure him ?

LUCKY : Aw, you know ... English - tight, wound up, looks like he has a
poker up his -

(SURVEILLANCE END TONE)

SURVEILLANCE START TONE.


(NEW YORK APARTMENT)

GORDINNI : Good to meet you, Mr Korvack. Please - have a seat.

KORVACK : Thank you.

GORDINNI : So ... How'd you find New York?

KORVACK : Filthy, crowded, noisy. Apart from that .. I hate the place.

GORDINNI : Prefer London, huh ?

KORVACK : Not particularly.

GORDINNI : (CHUCKLES.) Anyway, good to be out, right?

KORVACK 8 Right.

GORDINNI : Well, you certainly come highly recommended. Enrico says you're some kind
of genius, says you're a man of ideas ...

KORVACK : No, no. Just one - one idea.

GORDINNI : Okay, so long as it's good ...

KORVACK : Oh, it's good.

GORDINNI : Hm, hm. Let's, er, let's have a drink,then you can - you can tell me
all about it.

(SURVEILLANCE END TONE)
(SURVEILLANCE START)


(LONDON. FLAT. NORMA FURIOUSLY PACKS A SUITCASE.)

NORMA : Go fuck yourself. I'll do no such thing !

ENRICO : You'll do as I say, and if I say -

NORMA : - you say, you say. And who the hell are you ? I'm getting out. I've had about
as much of - Enrico, will you let go ?

ENRICO : Last warning, Norma, or so help me I'll -

NORMA : You lay one more finger on me and I'm bringing in the Law. I mean it, now get out of my -

(ENRICO GROANS WITH PAIN.)

NORMA : For God's sake, what's - ?

ENRICO ... pain ... pain here ...

(HE CRUMPLES TO THE FLOOR, UPSETTING DRESSING-TABLE AND SPILLING ITS CONTENTS)

(HE'S DYING OF A HEART-ATTACK)

ENRICO Don't just stand there, call a ... Norma ... ambulance ... get a ...
Norma ... Norma, please

(HE STRUGGLES FOR BREATH - A SHIP'S HORN SOUNDS)

ENRICO Norma ...

(SURVEILLANCE END)

SURVEILLANCE START


(NEW YORK APARTMENT)

GORDINNI : - there's people enough in the goddam world - few more,
few less, who cares ?

(TELEPHONE RINGS)

GORDINNI : Will you sit on that!

(HE SIGHS. DISTANT POLICE SIREN RECEDES)

GORDINNI : How old are you, Korvack? 35? 40? Me , I'd killed seven men by your age.
Two with my own hands. Ha! Now look at them. Arthritis. These claws couldn't
crack an egg. Lucky ..

LUCKY : Sir ?

GORDINNI : Bourbon. Sure you won't join me ?

KORVACK : Positive.

(AS LUCKY POURS DRINK)

GORDINNI : Anyway, you need action, right ?

KORVACK : I need your co-operation.

GORDINNI : So convince me.
KORVACK : A double hit - you here, me in London.

(GORDINNI CHUCKLES, LUCKY APPROACHES)

GORDINNI : Oh yeh? Leave it there, Lucky. So what's the target?

KORVACK : A bank. A merchant bank.

GORDINNI : Prison stewed your brain, Korvack? Merchant banks don't hold money.

KORVACK : Precisely.

GORDINNI : Precisely? What you mean precisely? Haven't I just - ?

KORVACK : I mean their Security isn't quite so ... rigorous.

GORDINNI : You come all the way from England just to - Damn !

(HIS GLASS FALLS)

GORDINNI : See? No grip. Be sucking it through a freaking straw next.

LUCKY : Get you another ?

GORDINNI : . . no, no .. .

KORVACK : Twenty million dollars ...

GORDINNI : ... twenty ?

KORVAOK : Probably more ...
GORDINNI : Look, didn't I just say -

KORVACK : Mr Gordinni, we don't steal the money, we steal the bank.

GORDINNI LAUGHS)

GORDINNI: ... the bank ?

KORVACK : Right. Then it gets even more funny. Soon after, we give it back.
