Paul Thain was born in South Shields, UK in 1949
Inspired by acting leading roles with the National Youth Theatre - Zigger Zagger, Macduff, Lysander - he gave up life as a bus conductor, studied A-levels, and then read Drama and Theatre Arts at Birmingham University
When his first child was born he left teaching to become primary parent and playwright
His second radio play - The Biggest Sandcastle in the World - won a BBC Giles Cooper Award as one of the Best Radio Plays of 1981 and he has subsequently written many more including The Paradise Machine for which the BBC's production won the 1995 European Broadcasting Union award for Best European Radio Drama
Paul has also written six commissioned screenplays, including Moonshadows, an adaptation of Shirley Jackson's We Have Always Lived in the Castle for Jack Clayton. Much praised - notably by John Huston - but yet to be realised
And to date he has published eight stage plays, most recently adaptations of A Christmas Carol in One-act & Seven Keys to Baldpate Inn & The Monkey's Paw & Charley's Aunt
His adaptation of Charley's Aunt was recently given a table reading to raise funds for The Equity Charitable Trust by an All-star cast which included Hamilton lead Karl Queensborough playing shy, love-struck Charley. For details, click: Proud Haddock
His plays have been published and performed throughout the world, particularly the UK, Germany, USA, Italy, Russia, New Zealand, and South Africa
Paul was also a Script Consultant for Samuel French Ltd (1984-2002)
And Reader for The Oxford Stage Company (1989-1997)
He is currently Managing Director & Senior Editor of The Internet Theatre Bookshop
