ACT 1
Scene 1: Prologue

(The Screen comes down from upstage center while Max speaks to the audience.)

MAX
(Voice only.)
Welcome everyone to A Kidnapper's Tale, or rather welcome to my tale that I'm going to show you tonight. It all starts,
(The Screen stops.) with a nightmare.

Scene 2: Max's Nightmare

(The clip shows Max, Eddie, and Jasmine on the roof of the building. Jasmine is wearing her swimsuit and is also tied up and gagged with Eddie holding her with one arm and holding a gun against her head with the other. After about ten seconds of nothing, the screen goes black and you hear a gunshot.)

Scene 3: Danny's Office

(There is a couch center stage and a desk with a chair on mid stage left. Danny's Trumpet is on the floor by the coach. Danny is at his desk writing a letter. Max enters as Danny then looks up.)

DANNY
Hello there Max, what can I do for you?
(Max looks around the room making sure no one is listening.)
Well?

MAX
I had the same nightmare again.
(Danny then drops his pen and stands up.)

DANNY
Please, have a seat!
(Max takes a seat on the coach as Danny goes right next to him.)
Are you certain it was the same dream with you, Eddie, and your girlfriend?

(Max nods his head. Danny then picks up his trumpet and plays in it a soft and calming song. After he plays it, he puts it on his lap.)

MAX
That's a nice song.

DANNY
You're not the only one who keeps having the same dream over again.

MAX
What do you mean dad?

DANNY
In my dream that I have also been having for quite a while. I was in a void of darkness, with nowhere to go and nowhere to run. After being lost for some time, I heard a trumpet playing music. I listened to the melody, trying to find out where it came from. I then came to a mirror and saw myself playing that trumpet. (Pause.) Max. Whenever you get scared, I want you to always remember this melody, and when you do, know that I shall be there to help guide you in your life, and keep your nightmares away.

MAX
You really think so dad?

DANNY
I know so son.
(Danny smiles at his son, and then he puts his trumpet on the floor.)
But onto a happier note, how is your girlfriend doing?

MAX
She is as great as ever. She has been training during her break so that she can make it to the cut of swimming in the Summer Olympics.

DANNY
That is awesome. I can't wait to watch her on TV when the next Summer Olympics come by, and take home the gold for us.

MAX
Let's not get over ourselves dad. She first has to make it through tryouts.

DANNY
Well in my book, she already is a winner.

MAX
You know what, me too.
