Synopsis

X Marks the Spot - a Humorous re-working of R. L. Stevenson's 'Treasure Island'

$8.99

D. Jones & John Gould

Published by SchoolPlay Productions

Large Mixed Cast
Innocent Jim Hawkins finds a treasure map upon the (un?)timely death of Billy Bones and sets out - in the company of friends and pirates - to seek his fortune. More than once Long John Silver and his fellow pirates take over only to be overthrown (literally on at least one occasion). Their arrival on the desert island is fairly traditional and meeting Ben Gunn is not unexpected but the ending is definitely "after Stevenson" when it is revealed that Elvis Presley is also living there as a fellow hermit! The play is written in verse form to facilitate the learning of parts and to add further humour to the script.

Cast : 21 Speaking parts (10 m, 1 f, 10 variable m/f) + Chorus. Suggested Age Range : 9 - 13. Running Time : 85 minutes + interval. Music : The songs are melodious and rhythmical. In the style of the popular song, verses and chorus sections are well contrasted and often syncopated to produce interesting rhythms which are easy to relate to. Set : In an Inn; on board a sailing ship; on an island.
