Virginia, a young woman in Rome around Christmas with her father, who is dying of cancer, gets a text while she is alone on the Spanish Steps from her abusive, elitist fiance' that the years' long engagement is over

He has found someone else. Furiously, she takes off his family's heirloom ring and attempts to smash it

She also rattles a bottle of painkillers, planning to take her life

Just then a young man, a Brit named John, steps out of the evening shadows to intervene

Little does she realize until the one-act's ending that the man was poet John Keats
