The musical genius has become bored in the Afterlife and his spirit returns to Earth in the late 20th century to help a nephew who is struggling to become a Broadway composer and playwright

Unfortunately, the nephew has more than his career to be concerned with ... a girlfriend who wants to get married and a grandmother who wants control of an estate left to him by his mother

Mozart's efforts to be of assistance are hampered by rules governing his visit to Earth

To succeed, he has to bend the rules and get help from an unexpected source

The music is derived from melodies in Mozart's compositions
