Synopsis
Father Joy
Published by Cyberpress
2 Male 2 Female
She yearns to create, but has not yet found the material that will give her ideas shape and substance
She is inspired by her professor, Paul Rhodes, 51, a world-famous environmental sculptor who uses natural materials such as leaves, sand, stones and ice to create his ephemeral works
When the attraction Abigail feels for Paul is revealed to be mutual, the two begin dating
As their romance develops, a curious thing starts happening to Abigail's father, Harry Margolis, 52
He starts disappearing
Literally
Every day he becomes less and less visible to his astonished wife and daughter
Abigail's mother Ruth, 52, blames the phenomenon on her daughter's May - December romance, but Abigail isn't convinced
After all, Harry's extreme introversion rendered him nearly invisible to her in the first place
But when she discovers that Harry is actually disintegrating into sand, and that this sand responds magically to her touch - and her touch alone - she realizes that his disappearance is deliberate and that he is making the ultimate sacrifice for her happiness
While Ruth and Paul try to dissuade Abigail from using the material, Harry enthusiastically encourages her and they develop a bond they never shared before
Harry's complete disappearance is initially viewed by Ruth as a death, but Abigail manifestly proves that he has been transformed into something magnificent and will live through her love and her art
Part comedy, part drama, Father Joy is about art, identity and the sacrifices parents make for their children
